Bill entitled an Act to provide for the minimum price per gram of alcohol, to confer the power on the Minister for Health to, by order, increase that price, to provide for the labelling of alcohol products including the inclusion of health warnings and the alcohol content and energy content of alcohol products on alcohol product containers, to provide for restrictions in relation to the advertising and sponsorship of alcohol products, to provide procedures in relation to the exposure for sale and advertising of alcohol products in specified licensed premises, to confer power on the Minister for Health to make regulations for the purpose of prohibiting or restricting the sale of alcohol products in certain circumstances, to provide for enforcement measures, to provide for the repeal of certain provisions of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2003 and the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008, and to provide for related matters

This year‘s report from the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada first provides a snapshot on the health status of Canadians, then shines a light on problematic substance use among youth with a focus on primary prevention. This means tackling risk factors, strengthening protective factors, delaying initiation to the use of substances, and preventing their harmful use.

The evaluation of the Government’s Drug Strategy 2010 contributes greatly to the evidence base for the Government’s new Drug Strategy. As such, this evaluation covers the strategy to the end of 2015 to provide sufficient time to feed into the development of the new strategy. However, a few 2016 and 2017 reports are also included for completeness.

The International Action Group on New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) is an informal network of over 30 Member States and international organizations that coordinates and drives the global response to these substances. This report is a contribution from the International Action Group to the wider process of monitoring the implementation of the Outcome Document. Members of the group have been invited to contribute information on their work to implement the six Outcome Document recommendations on NPS. This report does not reflect a joint position of the International Action Group, nor should it be considered a comprehensive collection of actions being taken to address NPS.
