On November 17 at 4:30 p.m. Madrid time (UTC+1), the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) will host the presentation of the technical document “Ibero-American minimum standards for the humanization of criminal and prison policy. Roadmap for the implementation of standards,” prepared by COMJIB and COPOLAD III, with the support of the European Union.
The document offers practical guidance on moving towards more humane and effective justice systems that respect fundamental rights, in a context where Ibero-American prison systems face serious challenges.
Among its main lines of action are the review of minor drug-related offenses, the expansion of alternatives to prison, and the promotion of restorative justice. These proposals seek to reduce prison overcrowding and strengthen social reintegration from a perspective of dignity and proportionality.
The discussion will bring together representatives from ministries of justice, international organizations, and academia, including Enrique Gil Botero (COMJIB), María Adiego (European Commission), Beatriz López Lorca (UCLM), and Douglas Durán Chavarría (ILANUD).
