Empirical evidence for better policy design<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NATIONAL DRUGS OBSERVATORIES<\/a><\/p>\n

This line of action accompanies improvements in drug policies in the 32 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean that the programme supports. Drugs have a clear impact on public health and generate inequality and social exclusion,<\/b> which particularly affect women and other vulnerable groups, making it necessary to constantly adapt public policies to new realities.<\/p>\n

The need for up-to-date scientific evidence is a crucial objective, recognised by the countries of the region and international organisations. Despite progress, research and information mechanisms are still weak in many Latin American and Caribbean countries. The programme accompanies the efforts to advance in strengthening drug research systems in a context of wide institutional heterogeneity from technical support for the development of human and institutional resources<\/b>, the promotion of scientific research agendas<\/b> or the creation of scientific advisory committees<\/b> for the development of research or decision-making.<\/p>\n
