{"id":15477,"date":"2025-12-11T16:14:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T14:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copolad.eu\/?p=15477"},"modified":"2025-12-10T18:47:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T16:47:28","slug":"eu-and-celac-strengthen-their-drug-policy-cooperation-at-a-high-level-meeting-in-brussels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/copolad.eu\/en\/eu-and-celac-strengthen-their-drug-policy-cooperation-at-a-high-level-meeting-in-brussels\/","title":{"rendered":"EU and CELAC strengthen their drug policy cooperation at a high-level meeting in Brussels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"325\" data-end=\"615\">Representatives of <b>42 National Drug Agencies from Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union took part in a high-level biregional meeting with EU institutions<\/b> held in Brussels from 9 to 11 December, in the framework of the EU\u2013CELAC Mechanism on Drugs and the COPOLAD III programme.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"926\">During the sessions, both regions addressed <b>four shared priorities:<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"926\"><br data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"687\" \/>\u2022 The <b>future development<\/b> of COPOLAD III<br data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"729\" \/>\u2022 Alternatives to the <b>growing violence<\/b> associated with illicit drug markets<br data-start=\"788\" data-end=\"791\" \/>\u2022 Strengthening <b>public health<\/b> and harm-reduction policies<br data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"851\" \/>\u2022 Biregional cooperation on <b>chemical precursors<\/b> and new synthetic threats<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1177\">Both Olivier LUYCKX from INTPA and Borja D\u00edaz Rivillas, the Programme Director, highlighted the relevance of the current moment. <b>\u201cThe drug context has worsened, affecting health and security. The COPOLAD III Programme is more important than ever.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1453\">Joan Margarita CEDANO, Ambassador of the Mission to the EU and CELAC Co-Chair of the EU\u2013CELAC Mechanism, stated:<b>\u201cOur joint approach must be guided by shared responsibility across supply, demand and structural factors, and by cooperation understood as a mutual endeavour.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1673\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-15475\" src=\"https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"sala llena\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42-1140x760.jpg 1140w, https:\/\/copolad.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BrusselsConference-42.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The meeting included a dialogue with the European Drug Agency (EUDA) and a working session with EU institutions to review the policy and cooperation tools available to address the global challenges of drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Among the institutions present at this meeting were the Directorate General for International Partnerships <b>(DGINTPA)<\/b>, the<b> European External Action Service<\/b>, <b>the Secretariat of the Council of the EU<\/b>, <b>the Foreign Policy Instruments Service<\/b>, as well as the Secretariat of the<b> European Parliament<\/b> and the EU Directorate-General for Home Affairs<b> (DGHome).<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"2028\">On 11 December, delegations participated in the <b>Technical Committee of the EU\u2013CELAC Mechanism, followed by an intra-CELAC meeting<\/b> focused on common priorities and coordination for 2026.
