Four years after the beginning of the third phase of COPOLAD and one year since the Declaration of La Paz, it is appropriate to convene the main actors of the Program in the Annual Meeting, in order to collectively reflect, from a cross perspective between both regions, on COPOLAD’s strategy and its actions, in order to face, in a renewed way, the main challenges of drug policies.
The COPOLAD III Annual Meeting, under the slogan ‘A common challenge, a shared strategy’, has two strategic objectives. On the one hand, to strengthen the bi-regional space for dialogue on drug policies, seeking convergence and harmonization in shared strategies. In this regard, both co-chairs of the EU-CELAC Drug Coordination Mechanism and the countries will be involved in the preparation of the technical discussions, ensuring the connection of these bodies with the work of the Mechanism, which will meet the following day, May 8, in Warsaw, Poland.
On the other hand, the COPOLAD III Annual Meeting will be a space for accountability and exchange of experiences among the Program’s allies and partner countries in LAC and the EU. It will also serve to highlight COPOLAD’s added value in its comprehensive approach, covering the areas of supply and demand reduction, peer learning, the multi-actor and territorial approach to the drug phenomenon, the gender approach and the gender and human rights approach.
The Annual Meeting will share COPOLAD’s results and challenges in its different areas of work, in order to show the results of national, multi-country and regional accompaniment, thus strengthening the actions already underway and identifying new strategic initiatives for the future.
