Analytical capacity of National Early Warning Systems and National Drug Observatories

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction co-organised, in the framework of the COPOLAD Cooperation Programme, a training workshop in Chile from 25-27 April 2023, together with the OAS|CICAD and with the support of the National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Use (SENDA). During the workshop, training and technical support was provided on complementary data collection methodologies, focusing on wastewater and web surveys, as well as on early warning systems, along with opportunities to share best practices on analytical capacity and early warning systems in the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the framework of this seminar, 2 workshops/trainings were held:

1. Early Warning Systems (EWS)
2. Complementary data collection methodologies: wastewater-based epidemiology and web-surveys.

The Observatory (becoming the European Drugs Agency in 2023) became an official partner of COPOLAD III in July 2022. The programme promotes bi-regional dialogue and cooperation on drug policy between the European Union and Latin American and Caribbean countries. Funded by the EU, the programme is led by the Fundación Internacional Iberoamericana de Políticas y Administraciones Públicas (FIIAPP), in consortium with the International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is also a partner in the programme.
