The Cooperation Programme between Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union on Drugs Policies COPOLAD III is holding its first annual meeting in Paraguay, which will bring together more than 35 national drug agencies. It will focus on the effects of COVID-19 on the fight against drugs and gender equality.

The first of the two sessions will also address the effects of drug trafficking on democratic governance and bi-regional cooperation mechanisms on money laundering and the fight against the illegal market. The importance of scientific research for the design of public policies will also be analyzed, as well as approaches to problematic consumption in contexts of vulnerability. Innovation will be one of the main areas of work, with a specific session and space for exchange.

During the second day of the meeting, the European Commission will take the opportunity to report on the European initiative on Security, the Fight against Organized  Crime and the Rule of Law, which it promotes through various regional programmes as COPOLAD III. In addition, increasingly topical issues such as the environment, media narratives on drugs, job placement and the control of chemical precursors will be addressed. The event will also analyze main activities of COPOLAD III and challenges for next years.
