COPOLAD III program has been supporting dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on drug policies for a decade, assisting the region in the implementation of more effective policies with results that substantially improve the lives of people and, especially, the most vulnerable.
The previous phases of COPOLAD have enhanced bi-regional cooperation in the field of supply reduction, through the exchange of information, experiences and intelligence and good practices and lessons learned in the control of precursors, among others.
COPOLAD III continues working to facilitate and eliminate legal and practical obstacles to police and judicial cooperation between the countries of the region and those of the EU, improving the capacities, knowledge and practical implementation of tools that improve the exchange of information and cooperation and promoting processes of management and disposal of chemicals with an environmental safety methodology. Within this framework, a workshop will be organized for the exchange of information and intelligence and improvement of management and disposal systems for seized chemicals with LAC-EU countries. This event is aimed at managers/technicians from countries that have been participating in the working group (1 per country) on Control of precursor chemicals for the manufacture of illegal drugs, which is led by Ecuador, being able to land with them concrete roadmaps that will allow the development of improvement plans for these agencies for the control of precursors and/or improvements in national systems for the management and disposal of chemical substances seized from drug trafficking. In order to coordinate the work being done in this area by different agencies, UNODC and CICAD/OAS will be participating.
